the board boasts a rounded tail with increased width in the tail and nose and extra thickness in the middle. Being a hybrid style board you get the performance of a Short Board and paddle power of a larger board. The extra width and thickness really makes the board paddle with unequalled speed and power. Catching waves becomes an absolute breeze.
If your a beginner and are looking to step up your Surfing and purchase shortboard, the Firewire Dominator is an excellent choice. As a beginner you don’t want to go to small so choosing the right sized board for your ability is essential. I’d start with a 6’6 or bigger ( depending on your size and weight but a 6’6 is a good middle point). The Dominator is easier to paddle than a regular board of it’s size and is extremely forgiving when your up and riding. As your ability increases you’ll be able to really get the most out of the Dominator, trimming down the line and throwing down some turns.
If your an intermediate to good surfer you’ll be wanting to look at a Firewire Dominator that is about 4 inches shorter than your regular shortboard. You’d think loosing a couple inches would hinder your paddle speed but the extra thickness and width means the Dominator will probably paddle better than your regular short board.
Whether it’s knee high or 6ft and grinding the Dominator seems to perform in all conditions. It really is one of those go to boards. The perfect travel trip partner. The board comes in 2 different types of technology.
1 Future Shapes Technology: This is a combination of Parabolic Balsa Rail technology and high density aerospace vacuum both bottom and top Decks. The Balsa rails complement the flex of the board and the vacuum adds additional impact strength to the boards.
2: Rapid Fire: The Hybrid technology of rapid fire combines a top deck skin of bamboo and carbon rod suspension. The carbon rods and bamboo skin combine to create an ultra responsive flex pattern that helps increase speed through turns.
Firewire Surfboards are stronger lighter and more responsive than standard surfboards. Not only that, they release 50 times less volatile organic compounds into the environment! Great boards made from greener materials surely a step in the right direction. Even though they are strong boards they are by no means indestructible.
Overall the the Firewire Dominator is a must board for anyone’s quiver. Built by a great company with good materials and top of the range technology. If you haven’t surfed one yet try get yourself down to a testing shop ASAP. If there isn’t a shop close by ask someone at the beach preferably a friend if they wouldn’t mind you catching a couple waves to try it out. Although the second option might be a toughie most guys wouldn’t want to part from there one love for to long.
